Humane Rat Trap Bait

When you use any mouse or rat trap, you need to have bait in there to attract the rodent.  Regardless of whether you are using a humane rat trap or another type of trap, putting a tasty piece of bait in the contraption will almost always ensure success.  Many people wonder what they should use for this purpose, so here is a guide to rat trap bait.

Many people don’t give rodent bait much thought, and just pull something out of their refrigerator to put on the trap.  Common kitchen baits are peanut butter, cheese, and crackers.  If you are using a snap trap, it is definitely better to use something sticky like peanut butter to prevent the mouse or rat from just running off with the bait.  When using humane rat traps on the other hand, you can pretty much put whatever you want in there since there is no chance “stealing” will occur.  If you have tried items from your fridge and pantry and haven’t had much success, your next step should be to get yourself some rat bait.

There are two types of rat and mouse bait, and you need to be careful when choosing. Most people who are using a humane trap don’t want to kill whatever they catch.  For this reason, you should avoid most of the rodent bait because they have poison in them and are designed kill whatever eats them.  There are a few types of harmless rat bait out there that should do the trick pretty well.

The first type is the Pro Pest Professional Rat Bait.  This stuff comes in a 4 ounce jar and you just spread a little on whatever trap you want.  It is made of a blend of nuts, nut oils, and seeds that rodents find irresistible.  The good thing about it is that they use food-grade ingredients that are fit for human consumption.  This means that if for some reason a child, cat, dog or some other creature were to take a bite of it, they would get nothing more than a pleasant snack.  You definitely can’t say the same thing for the many types of poisonous rat baits available!
